Peace of Mind: Keep the power on during hurricane season, winter storms, and unexpected grid outages.

Installing batteries will allow you to store power generated by your solar system. In a grid outage, the battery automatically provides backup power to critical loads in your home. Store your electricity for when you need it, night or day. In the case of a power outage, you will have a reserve of electricity as a clean and easy to use alternative to a generator. The battery storage systems we install seamlessly work with your solar array. When the sun is out, the solar generation will recharge the battery, giving you electricity to use for extended outages and allowing your grid-tied solar system the ability to power your critical loads in your home, off grid.

Batteries and Grid-Tied Solar Systems: How do they Work In a Power Outage?

Sunlight is captured by your solar panels and then converted into AC energy you can use for your home. As that energy flows into your home, your electric appliances use it first, and any excess energy is stored in the battery. Once the battery is fully charged, additional electricity your system generates is sent back to the grid to be collected as energy credits for later use through net metering. With a grid tied system, the grid acts as your battery. You draw from it when the sun goes down.

When there is an outage, grid-tied solar systems automatically shut down your solar electric energy production as a safety feature to keep the utility workers safe from any live voltage in downed power lines. However, a solar-plus-battery installation allows your system to automatically disconnect itself from the grid when an outage is detected and instead charge the battery. During an extended outage, your solar panels will continue to recharge your battery.

We are GMP Certified Installers and are official providers for the battery lease and Bring Your Own Device programs.

We partner with Green Mountain Power and will help you navigate options to take advantage of GMP’s bold home energy storage rebates. Choose between two low cost options: $5,500 upfront cost or 10 year lease for $55 a month.

We will work with you to determine the best options for your budget and energy needs. Get in touch and schedule a consultation.
