PURPOSE / DESCRIPTION:

The successful Sr. Manager of Field Operations, as a member of the leadership team, will manage day-to-day field operations and serve as the communications bridge between office and field staff.  Key responsibilities include job installation preparation, inventory procurement and management, construction and electrical permit acquisition (when needed), project timeline/budget management, crew performance management, quality assurance, and safety policy compliance.

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Minimum of three-years’ experience in the solar industry with a focus on grid-tied residential, and small commercial projects encompassing solar PV roof and ground mounting systems as well as whole-home battery back-up systems

  • Minimum of three-years of experience and verifiable success in team management and leadership

  • Internal embodiment and outward demonstration of a team-player attitude capable of balancing crew and company needs with a conscientious, kind and thoughtful approach to problem solving

  • Model professionalism in all interactions among SVT staff, clients and the general public while representing the company

  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills

  • Mathematical skills competency

  • Understanding construction-related documents such as plan-sets

  • Strong attention to detail

  • Proficiency utilizing basic electronic communications systems such as Gmail and Google Drive as well as familiarity with time-sheet applications, inventory management systems, Microsoft excel, Microsoft word or similar office organizational tools

  • Must have and maintain a clean and valid driver’s license in good standing with the states of Vermont and New Hampshire

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Daily leadership and support of the field installation team by applying critical thinking and problem-solving skills to construction projects with results determined by measuring on-time and on-budget completion without compromising quality, workmanship or client satisfaction

  • Effectively communicate daily with the management team regarding pre-build planning, construction progress reporting, collaborative problem solving and crew performance or job satisfaction concerns

  • Proactive daily job preparation such as parts picking, vehicle load-out assistance and individual crew member daily assignments

  • Problem-solve as required and handle installation team’s varying needs as evolving circumstances and challenges require

  • Plan, schedule and conduct field team annual and semi-annual reviews in collaboration with the Strategic Director

  • Inspect and verify ground-work site plans, flag conduit runs and obtain dig-safe approvals

  • Order job parts inventory, conduct quarterly inventory audits, adjust inventory levels as needed and ensure crew compliance with inventory check-out

  • Conduct post-contract site evaluations to confirm measurements, component locations, electrical system status and other site-specific data relevant to installation

  • Collaborate closely with Project Communications Manager to ensure proactive and accurate customer communications

  • Collaborate with the Sr. Management, Sales and Customer Communications teams on installation scheduling and continuously manage and communicate real-time installation progress timelines to ensure uninterrupted continuity of field work

  • Ensure that existing field team members and new field employees complete mandated SVTS training programs and master safety and installation standards

  • Ensure team member installation work remains in accordance with product manuals, installation instructions, specification sheets and warranty requirements

  • Revise and update installation procedures as new products enter the product portfolio 

  • Immediately report any product or property damage (SVT-owned and client-owned) and/or need for repairs to the Strategic Director

  • Oversee vehicle maintenance schedules and ensure required maintenance, repairs, registrations and inspections are completed on time and as needed

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent

  • 3+ years of experience in the solar construction industry

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Requires standing, bending or twisting and using hand tools or controls.  Ability to lift or move up to 50 lbs.  Requires the ability to climb ladders and work on roofs and crawl spaces with provided safety equipment

COMPENSATION:

  • The base salary before bonus payments range for this position is $75,000-$90,000 annually with earnings potential in excess of $120,000 including bonuses, commensurate with experience
